ChatGPT Founder’s Worldcoin Surges in Spain Amid AI Boom

Spain Emerges as Worldcoin’s Largest European Market, Boosting AI Sector

Worldcoin recently announced that Spain has become its biggest operating market in Europe, witnessing a surge in the number of individuals joining its World ID platform. With over 20,000 new registrations occurring monthly, Worldcoin’s proof-of-personhood mechanism, World ID, has gained popularity in Spain. This development comes at a time when Spain is making significant strides in the growth of its artificial intelligence (AI) sector, positioning itself as a potential hub for AI businesses within the European Union.

Worldcoin, a cryptocurrency venture co-founded by Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and creator of ChatGPT, has been making waves in the industry. The company recently raised $115 million in a Series C funding round led by Blockchain Capital, solidifying its position as a major player in the cryptocurrency market.

World ID, an AI-safe proof of personhood (PoP) credential, serves as a global identification system that allows users to digitally showcase their uniqueness and humanity.

Since its launch in Madrid just over a year ago, more than 150,000 Spaniards have registered for World ID, with an additional 20,000 new registrations each month. As a result of this rapid growth, Spain currently boasts the fastest-growing Worldcoin market in the EU.

The development of World ID in Spain aligns with the country’s flourishing AI industry. Over the past few years, Spain has made remarkable progress in advancing its AI sector. The rapid evolution of technology necessitates the ability to distinguish human-related internet activities from non-human ones. In this regard, World ID proves to be a valuable tool.

In a notable move, two of Spain’s leading technology organizations, Adigital and Tech Barcelona, have joined Worldcoin’s contributing team at Tools for Humanity (TFH), further supporting the expansion of World ID. This collaboration reinforces Worldcoin’s commitment to fostering technological growth and developing AI that prioritizes human-centric principles.

According to Worldcoin’s official Twitter profile, their ultimate objective is to create the largest financial and identification network on Earth, with everyone having ownership. Judging by the exponential growth of World ID in Spain, it appears they are on track to achieve this ambitious goal.
